lived in South Chard in Somerset but who is believed to have had a
sister living in Beer. The maiden name would have been BAKER. Both
these ladies have been deceased since the 1970s. I do not know the
married name of the sister who lived in Beer but she is believed to
have had some children, possibly a son named David (this is by no means
certain). If anyone has information about this lady or her ancestry (and I have been told she may have been born in Leicestershire) I would be much obliged to hear from them. | BEER | Magnus Leidland | magnus.leidland@skolepost.no | One
of my ancestors stranded on the island Hidra on the south coast of
Norway most likely in 1841 or nearby. The crew was lodged into private
houses. One of the womans in one of these houses borned a son in 1842,
and one of the crew was the father. The child was named Hans Bernt
Olsen. Hans Bernt Olsens's son took the name "Beer", so probably that
was his fathers real name. Perhaps Hans Bernt was ashamed becaus he was
born out of wedlock, and took his mothers name or anything else. So my question is: Do you know any ship from Beer which stranded in Norway in this periode of time? What was the father name of Hans Bernt Olsen's father? Is my lineage from Beer? I would be very grateful for just a little hint! | January 2009 |

| NELSON | Betty Gunnels | BETTYCODEN@AOL | Our family came to America in 1696 , Capt. John Nelson. Does anybody have any history on this person? Thanks, Betty Coden, Alabama | October 2006 |
| NEWTON | Donna Baker | donna.baker@dsl.pipex.com | I am looking for any relatives who might be living in
Beer now. My mother (Lilian Mary Walters) had a number of relatives in
the Newton family living, I believe, at Rock Farm, whom she used to
visit until the 1950s. She used to speak particularly of a cousin
called Mary. My brothers, who visited sometime in the 1950s found that
our mother was remembered by a number of other residents as well. Her father, George Walters, was born at Branscombe; his father, Hugh Walters, was born in Liverpool and married Sarah Jane Newton (born 26 February 1837 in Branscombe); she was the daughter of John and Mary Newton. Hugh and Sarah Jane were married in Melcombe Regis (perhaps she was in service there) but appear to have lived for a while in Branscombe as their first child, George Walters (Lilian's father and therefore my grandfather) was born there. I believe Hugh was a shoemaker; his father Hugh certainly was. George joined the Navy and seems to have taken his wife to several posts, since subsequent children were born in Malta and Bermuda before they finally settled in Gosport where my mother (Lilian) was born. She married Harry Banks. I now live in Devon and would very much like to find any relatives who might remember my mother, or who might have lived at Rock Farm or be related to that branch of the family. I am bringing my sister to Beer in June (2007) to celebrate her 80th birthday and I know she and I would both love to make contact - I think she possibly stayed at Rock Farm as a child (but can't ask her as this is to be a surprise!) |
