Stargazers will love a visit to the Norman Lockyer Observatory. Founded in 1912 by Sir Norman Lockyer, the observatory was a centre for astrophysical and geophysical research until the 1980s. Now run by volunteers, visitors can enjoy a planetarium presentation and a tour of the historic telescopes. The observatory also runs astronomy classes and has a calendar of special public events.
Opening times are listed on the observatory website and private visits can also be booked.
